BREAK UPS

Breakups are an inevitable part of life, often bringing emotional turmoil and a sense of loss. They challenge us to confront vulnerabilities, learn from experiences, and ultimately move forward. The emotional impact of a breakup can be intense, involving feelings like sadness, anger, confusion, and even relief. These emotions, though overwhelming, are natural and integral to the healing process. Recognizing and accepting them is essential, as it marks the first step toward recovery. The psychological effects of a breakup can be profound, leading to anxiety, depression, and stress. The sudden change in one’s life can cause feelings of instability and fear about the future. Developing healthy coping mechanisms is crucial for managing these effects. Seeking support from friends and family, engaging in self-care activities, and possibly seeking professional help are effective ways to process emotions and regain a sense of control. Journaling, meditation, and physical exercise also con...

My journey to self love and healing.

In the labyrinth of my heart, there was a man whom I thought I loved deeply. He was the embodiment of passion, and his allure was magnetic. But beneath the intoxicating spell of his presence, I discovered a painful truth that I can no longer deny. My heart had been tethered to his, and I willingly gave him my all. I told him, "I love you," and I meant it. Yet, he chose to tread upon my feelings indifferently, a coldness that left me drowning in a sea of uncertainty. For reasons I could not fathom, he would only reach out when desire coursed through his veins, leaving me longing for more. I found myself trapped in a cycle of self-inflicted torment, always the one to initiate contact, my heart yearning for the connection I craved. It was a dance that left me bruised and battered, with my self-esteem hanging by a thread. Today, in a serendipitous encounter along our familiar path, he offered me nothing more than a fleeting side hug. No words, no affection, just a reminder of how...

My journal of fighting laziness

Wednesday 27/09/2023. A lot has been unfolding in my life, and my parents' separation has taken a toll on my finances. Simultaneously, I'm facing challenges in my relationship with my boyfriend. These issues have transformed me from the typically cheerful and motivated person I used to be into someone who's struggling to find motivation and direction.   I've always been diligent about attending classes on time and even staying ahead of the lecturers by reading ahead. I've also been deeply involved in various co-curricular activities, such as debates, entrepreneurship, and music. However, recently, I've found it challenging to juggle all these commitments. I'm determined to regain control over my life by restoring my sleep patterns, improving my interpersonal communication skills, and refining my time management abilities.   Today, I set myself the challenge of making at least two new friends and enhancing my time management skills. I achieved a si...

The Mastercard Foundation Strategy to Promote and Expand Employment Opportunities for Young People in Africa

The Youth Employment Challenge  Africa is the youngest and fastest-growing continent in the world. By 2030, there will be 375 million young people in the job market in Africa. Within a few decades, this demographic boom will push Africa’s workforce to more than a billion people, the largest in the world. While economic growth in many countries has been strong over the last 10 years, it has come with relatively few employment opportunities. According to the International Labour Organization, almost 80 percent of people in Africa work informally. Recent research undertaken by our Foundation in two countries in Africa found that among young people, very few had access to formal employment and most struggled to make a decent salary to live. When young people can secure formal work and a steady wage, their lives improve. Employment, particularly formal employment, is a leading pathway out of poverty for families. In Africa, the world’s youngest continent, youth em...
